Thaleops was a rare genus of trilobite belonging to the family Illaenidae, a group known for their smooth, rounded exoskeletons and broad body shape. These marine arthropods lived during the Ordovician Period, roughly 470–445 million years ago, in the shallow tropical seas that once covered parts of North America. Fossils of Thaleops have been discovered in areas such as Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New York, and parts of Canada.
