Description

Early Jurassic (Lower Hettangian)

Zagaje Formation

Holy Cross Mountains, Poland

42mm fertile organ on 64mm matrix from an unusual locality.

Seed, Cycad.

An inflorescence usually refers to a flower cluster in a flowering plant, but in a modern cycad, it refers to a pineapple-shaped body containing macrospores.  This specimen dates back to the Early Jurassic, long before the vast majority of modern genera appeared, so it represents a different and extinct form.
