Unlike the living Ginkgo biloba, which has broad fan shaped leaves, Ginkgo dissecta is characterized by deeply divided, narrow lobes that create a finely cut or dissected appearance. This gives the leaf a striking, delicate form that is highly sought after by fossil plant collectors.
