Description

Asteroid
Late Cretaceous
Haslam Formation
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

215mm slab with five starfish, averaging 45mm each.

Brittle stars date back at least to the Early Ordovician. They almost always disintegrate right after they die so fossils are rare, but the lucky thing is when you find one, you might find several more in the same bed.

You don’t see a lot of fossils from the Haslam Formation on the market.  Local collectors tend to hang onto anything unusual that they find but we were able to acquire this remarkable plate with a quintet of brittle stars, each busting a move.
