Description

Bird
Early Eocene
Green River Formation – Parachute Creek Member
Rio Blanco County, Colorado, USA

18mm feather on 45mm matrix.

Feathers are delicate natural structures and are therefore poor candidates for fossilization.  They tend to be found were leaves or insects are preserved as compression fossils but are more uncommon.

Though incomplete, this fossil feather is less frazzled than most and shows some fine detail.

And yes, frazzled is a technical term.
