Description

Lower Cretaceous (Albian)
Lower Gault, Bed II – P. intermedius Zone
Folkestone, Kent, Great Britain
Gorgeous 53mm heteromorph ammonite in 109mm matrix with much original shell and great color.
Ammonite, Heteromorph. Cephalopod.

Hamites is a heteromorph (or irregularly-coiled) ammonite genus of the Early to Late Cretaceous (Lower Albian-Late Cenomanian).  It has been particularly rich in species though it became apparent that the range in variation among them was too much for one genus.  Many have been reassigned to new genera.  H. attenuatus is the type-species of the genus.

This specimen is particularly nice as most are partials with little-to-no original shell.
