Description
Captorhinus aguti
Early Permian (Artinskian)
Richards Spur, Lawton
Oklahoma, USA.
A complete 18-inch mounted skull and skeleton of Captorhinus aguti, a small but highly significant early reptile from the Permian Period. This specimen represents one of the best-known captorhinid reptiles, a group important for understanding early amniote evolution and terrestrial adaptation.
The mounted skeleton preserves a fully articulated body plan, including skull, vertebral column, limb elements, and tail in anatomical alignment. The skull is well-defined and proportionally large relative to the body, reflecting the species’ robust cranial construction. The jaws contain the characteristic dentition pattern associated with early herbivorous to omnivorous adaptations in captorhinids.
Complete 18” mounted skull and skeleton.
