Description

Olenellus clarki
Trilobite
Lower Cambrian
Latham Shale
Providence Mountains, California, USA

26mm on 162mm slab with extra cephalons.

Arthropod. Trilobite. Redlichid.

Olenellus is a genus of one of the most ancient trilobites. It lived only during the Early Cambrian and is found at sites in western and eastern North America as far north as the Yukon Territory of Canada, as far south as Georgia in the U.S. and up the east coast in Pennsylvania. Its rather flat body is typical of early trilobites.

Here’s a affordable piece perhaps of greatest interest to collectors in California, or collectors of California fossils. It’s a near-complete Olenellus for the person who doesn’t need a perfect/expensive one – just something to represent the group or the time. It would look good in a display case with a light shining across it to reveal the extra cephalons.
