Gogia kitchnerensis
Eocrinoid
Middle Cambrian
Spence Shale
Antimony Canyon, Brigham City, Utah, USA

Good 60mm plus partials on 230mm slab.

Gogia is a genus of eocrinoid that lived during the Cambrian Period.  Its remains have been found in North America and Europe.

Eocrinoids are one of the earliest-known groups of echinoderms.  The name implies that they are ancestral to crinoids but they may not be despite the fact that both groups have very similar structure (holdfast, stalk, plated cup, arms) and crinoids appear to be more advanced forms.  Eocrinoids appeared in the Early Cambrian but became extinct by the end of the Silurian.

Cup and arms present on the good one. Interesting multiple. Most specimens that have been on the market were from an Idaho locality. This plate is from a different one in Utah.
