Fractofusus is one of the best-studied members of the Ediacaran biota and has become especially significant for evidence suggesting it reproduced both sexually and asexually, making it an important species for understanding the origins of complex life. Its exceptional preservation provides a rare glimpse into ecosystems that existed long before animals with shells or skeletons became common.
