Description
Bettongia sp.- Marsupial jaw
Late Pleistocene
Hinsky’s Quarry Cave Deposit
naracoorte, south Australia
This 44mm specimen highlights the evolutionary adaptations of a specialized omnivore with a strong preference for fungi. The mandible is slender and gently curved, with a lightly built horizontal ramus and a modest vertical rise toward the rear. Despite its small size, the bone retains clear anatomical detail, including subtle surface texture and visible foramina along the outer face.
