Description

Webbyites felix
Early Ordovicion (Arenigian)
Upper Fezouata Formation
Zagora, Draa Valley
Morocco

This 38mm benthic graptolite, beautifully preserved on a 65mm slab, offers a rare glimpse into an unusual lifestyle for these ancient colonial animals. Unlike the more common planktonic graptolites that floated in ancient seas, this specimen lived attached to the seafloor. Its delicate, branching structure captures incredible detail, revealing how these early filter-feeders thrived in Paleozoic environments. A fossil of quiet elegance and scientific importance, it showcases a lesser-seen side of graptolite evolution.
