Crustacean,

Isopods are uncommon in the fossil record, dating back to the Carboniferous Period.  In fact, they are first-known from the Mazon Creek fauna.  Today, scientists sometimes bring up big ones the size of a lobster from the depths of the ocean.  Most are small like the “pill bugs” you found in your grandparents’ garden. Compare to the picture of the living marine isopod to get an idea what this monster looked like.
