Araucaria mirabilis is an extinct relative of modern araucarian conifers such as the monkey puzzle tree and Norfolk Island pine. The species is famous from the Cerro Cuadrado Petrified Forest, where volcanic activity rapidly buried and silicified entire forests, preserving remarkable internal structure.
