Description
Misszhouia Longicaudata Chen et al 1996
Early Cambrian
Wulongqing Formation
Yunnan Province, China.
Huge 270mm x 190mm slab with at least seven Nektaspids, three of which are complete and very large (61mm, 62mm, 49mm).
Nektaspids are an extinct group of soft-bodied arthropods that lived during the Cambrian and Ordovician periods. They had flattened, segmented bodies with a head shield, a few body segments, and a tail shield, often lacking hard exoskeletons or eyes. Nektaspids were likely bottom-dwellers or swimmers, gliding over the seafloor in ancient oceans. Some, like Naraoia, are well-known from the Burgess Shale. Their simple yet unique anatomy provides valuable clues about early arthropod evolution and the diversity of life during the Cambrian Explosion.
