Description
Trimerorachis sp.
Early Permian
Ryan Formation
Waurika
Oklahoma, USA.
A fossil specimen of Trimerorhachis sp., an extinct temnospondyl amphibian from the Early Permian of North America. This genus represents a group of early, primarily aquatic amphibians that thrived in freshwater environments long before modern amphibians evolved.
The fossil typically preserves an elongated body with a relatively large, broad skull and an extended tail, reflecting its fully aquatic lifestyle. The skull is flattened and wide, with small, simple teeth adapted for catching soft-bodied prey. The postcranial skeleton often shows short limbs and a long, laterally compressed tail, indicating propulsion through undulatory swimming.
Enormous 4 foot long (122cm) complete mounted skeleton.
