Description
Genibatrachus baoshanensis
Early cretaceous (Berriasian)
Yixian Formation
Liaoning, China
91mm frog on 208mm slab
Genibatrachus is an extinct frog from the Early Cretaceous, discovered in the famous fossil beds of Liaoning, China, dating back around 125 million years. It had a compact body and long legs, much like modern frogs, showing that key amphibian traits were already well developed. What makes Genibatrachus special is its exceptional preservation—some fossils even show impressions of soft tissue. Rare and scientifically valuable, it provides a crystal-clear snapshot of early frog evolution during the age of dinosaurs.
