Description

Spriggina floundersi and Conomedusa lobatus
Late Precambrian (Vendian)
Rawnsley Quartzite
South Australia, Australia

8 inch long CAST of TWO rare Ediacaran animals. At 1.1 inch the Spriggina floundersi is huge for the species and the Conomedusa is 0.8 inch. Mold was taken from the original specimen so the detail is unusually good.

Problematica, Ediacaran.

Casts are fine alternatives to fossil specimens that are difficult to access such holotypes and others in museum collections.  They are great visual aids to fossil collectors, museum curators, and science teachers with less risk of breakage. They are also affordable alternatives to rare fossils that would be otherwise expensive.

Casts are not approximations of the size and features of a fossil.  They are life-size copies of actual fossils and they are made of materials (generally special plastics) formulated to capture fine details of the original.
